Looking for a gas tank that works visually with a wide range of choppers and customs? A derivative of the classic peanut tank is always a safe bet.
OEM Harley-Davidson āpeanutā Sportster tanks have long been cut in half, narrowed, and welded back together to create a sleek look. āFrisco-ingā is a step beyond that, involving relocating the fuel filler up high. This allows the full capacity of the tank to be accessed, even on a chopper with a steeply-sloping backbone. It does look great, but itās a lot of work! You can remove some of the less-glamourous fabrication work with this narrow Frisco tank.Ā
This tank is 100% brand-new construction and has the same shape as a narrowed OEM Harley Sportster tank. The cap bung is set up high, and accepts a standard OEM Harley-Davidson cam-lock style cap. The 1/4" NPT petcock bung is on the left side of the tank (jiffy stand side) at the rear of the tank to assist in using the full fuel capacity of the tank..Ā
We offer a number of petcocks that fit this tank; P/N 105-0016 is a great, affordable option thatās easy on the wallet, and we also have fuel caps like P/N 105-0016 for a complete installation. This tank is TIG-welded pressure tested at the factory before shipping. Mounting tabs are welded onto the tank for convenience, but ultimately you need to fabricate a solid mount to your motorcycle. Some riders like to mount through the tabs directly into the frame. For a rock-solid and super-clean mount, we also offer a number of bungs. Please see image gallery for tank dimensions.
Though these tanks are pressure tested from the factory, pressure testing before applying filler or paint is standard practice. If needed, you may elect to seal with a tank sealer (P/N 105-0002) before painting. Itās cheap insurance and we use it on every bike that we build. For the same reason, we encourage thorough, solid mountingāstress on the tank or mounting hardware will eventually lead to cracks.
