Cycle Electric DGV-5000-BLK black generator (with regulator) for Harley-Davidson 1936-1984
Cycle Electric DGV-5000 series of generators is designed to bolt right into vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles from 1965 to 1984—but they're a killer upgrade for many earlier bikes. This is a complete charging system: a generator equipped with a Cycle Electric end-bell regulator.
The DGV-5000 is the go-to standard for genny-equipped motorcycles. Stop rebuilding old junk from the swap meet and bolt in reliability! This can also be used on older machines (pre-'65) when converting from a 6-volt system to 12-volt. (See fitment notes.)
The DGV-5000 simplifies wiring, and has a long service life, and Cycle Electric Inc. services what they sell—if you ever need repair, they work on the items they build. This is the last generator you will have to buy for your bike! The DGV-5000 standard model will keep electric starting easy and crisp.
The DGV-5000 is really at home on stock motorcycles with fairly large batteries on the side of the motorcycle, electric starting, and most or all stock lighting. If you're running a stripped-down chopper, consider the 108-0149 instead—it's specially built to provide gentler charging for small batteries living in horsehoe oil tanks and serving systems with minimal electrical draw.

This setup can also be used on older machines (pre-'65) when converting from a 6-volt system to 12-volt. (See fitment notes.) This -BLK model features an attractive black finish on the generator and regulator body, unlike standard models which feature contrasting machined fins on the end of the reg.

Fitment (direct bolt-in):
- 1965-Early 1984 Harley-Davidson Sportster
- 1965-1969 Harley-Davidson Big Twin
Fitment notes for non-direct applications:
- The bolt pattern on Harley generators is the same on all years, but ¼-24 thread inserts (not included) need to be installed into the generator to use on 1957-and-earlier machines. (Or you can modify your cases to accept the larger hardware.)
- This charging system can be run without a battery, though it's not recommended.
- Gasket, paper shims, gears, deflectors, roll pins, mounting hardware, and cradle are not included.
- If you are converting a 6V motorcycle to 12V, you will need an extensive list of parts including bulbs, battery, and ignition coil.
- This generator may require polarizing (flashing).
