Mid-USA Clutch Hub Shell Retainer Kit for 1941-E1984 Harley-Davidson Big Twin
This replica of the venerable Ram-Jett retainer is one of the best, most economical upgrades you can make to your Big Twin's clutch.
- Eliminates grabby, jerking clutches
- Adjustable
- Sets the clutch basket end play correctly
- Helps prevent clutch basket walk-out when the trans is decoupled from the engine
- Simple installation process—the only thing you need beyond the tools for a standard clutch replacement is a set of snap-ring pliers
Does your bike pull forward at a stop? Your clutch basket is probably "walking out" on the mainshaft. When you engage the clutch to uncouple the power from the engine, the clutch basket is sliding outboard; there's nothing to retain it. Because the taper on the mainshaft locks the hub's depth, the effect is the clutch shell acting as kind of a poor pressure plate, re-coupling the engine and clutch.
This hub retainer has three selectable depths to help you dial all the excess endplay out of get your clutch basket. Choose the correct depth, use the snap rings to hold it in place, and you're set to go.
- 1941-E1984 Harley-Davidson Big Twin with four-speed transmission
- Made for OEM three-finger hubs, but compatible with aftermarket five-finger hubs with some alterations to the installation: only two holes on the correct depth setting will accept a snap ring; place the third snap ring on one of the fingers with the next-closest depth
- 110-0084; replaces 18-3613, 73218, 1132-0090
